How I Roll.....

As many of you know, I have been needing a new car. Badly. When I went to college, my momma gave me her '96 Honda Accord (thank you momma!) so I could get around like a big college girl! That car was a blessing at school and it saw me through a lot of great road trips :-) Alas, 9 years later, that car is now 13 years old and has over 207,000 miles on it. The A/C does not work; the drivers side window takes 5 minutes to roll up; the paint is coming off everywhere; the left front headlight is held on with duct tape; the radio has been stolen out of it 3 times. Seriously. I NEED a new car.

And now I got one! All thanks to an unforeseen chain of events that started a few weeks ago. I noticed my car started missing gears; I could tell because the RPMs were really high and I couldn't feel the car shift into the next gear. Not to mention its had its share of transmission issues; 2 years ago we had to put a new (rebuilt) transmission in. It wasn't happening all the time, but enough that it got me a little worried. Then, last Friday, I got my tax return! And thanks to my recent homeowner status, I got a very nice return :-) Saturday, I went to watch a friend's softball game at my old high school (Naaman Forest). I was cruisin' down the highway, made my exit, and did a u-turn to come back down the service road. Surprise! Right as I came out of the u-turn, my car dies. After a few tries I managed to get it going again, amidst the racing oncoming traffic behind me. After the game it drove home fine; I took the back roads, of course. Well the next day I was taking precious puppy Didgeradoo back to his grandma's house and...GASP...I can't even drive my car out of our street! I couldn't even reverse back to my parking spot! I knew then, that our beautiful 9 year relationship was over.

Needless to say, the next few nights and days were dedicated to research and car hunting. And of course to haggling and financing. Big thank yous to my Daddy and Luis for helping me throughout this exhausting process; especially with strong-arming the nasty salesmen. :-) But finally.....FINALLY it was all said and done about 6:15 last Thursday night. A new relationship has begun, and I would like to take this moment to introduce you all to....

Lauren's Shower

Lauren is one of my friends from high school; she’s pretty much 1 of the 2 people I still talk to from that horrid place. I’m kidding; it wasn’t that bad. But I definitely don’t keep up with half of the people I knew. Lauren does a good job of informing me about what is going on with all of our old acquaintances. Its always interesting to hear what has happened to people, especially considering how they were in school; so many people change in different ways; some for the better, some for the worse.

Anyways, my friend Lauren and I parted ways after NFHS; she went to that school up in Lubbock (Texas Tech). While there, she met Rob and they became best friends. They actually didn’t even start dating until after they had graduated! Crazy! Well now they are engaged and will be married June 13 at the Dallas Arboretum. It’s going to be lovely! Her colors are pink and green; our bridesmaid dresses are “raspberry”, and they are really nice. Here’s what mine looks like. (Click on "mine" to see the dress!)

So I and two other girls threw a bridal shower for her at my house this past weekend to help celebrate. It went really well and I thought I would post some pictures. I've done so many of these showers and parties that I'm seriously contemplating making it a part-time business!! What do you think?!

Ruidoso Ski Trip

Last weekend a group of us took a little vacation out to Ruidoso, NM for some skiing! It was awesome to get away from the grind for a bit and hang out in the mountains.

View from the lookout going up to the slopes

We flew into the airport at Roswell, NM....if you can even call it an airport. It was more like a one room building. There wasn't even a real terminal to pull into; they rolled stairs up to the plane and we walked down to the ground like the President, only not as prestigious. We visted the National UFO Museum, which was a joke. But I got a cool shot glass. And Lou took a picture with an alien. They're best buds. :-)

I have never skied NM before, and I have to say it was quite different from what I'm used to in Colorado. Ski Apache is a lot smaller than Keystone or Breckenridge, and there was definitely a lot less snow than I'm used to seeing. Granted we did go at the end of February, but the people there said it was unusual for them that time of year. Only about 30% of the mountain was open and there were tons of areas that had no snow at all, as you can see from the pictures. Regardless though, it was so much fun. It was Lou's first time skiing and he did so great! He had an excellent teacher, of course! Lots of falls on the first day, but he mastered the mountain the second day :-) He is ready to conquer Colorado!

Despite the mediocre food, terrible water, and wanna-be airport, it was amazing. Of course the people you're with make all the difference in the world, and I was glad to share the experience with friends! I predict many more ski trips to come!
